Module 1: Fundamentals
1.2 File Exploration

1.2 File Exploration

Time: ~20 minutes

What You'll Learn

  • Navigate unfamiliar file structures
  • Get Claude to summarize multiple files at once
  • Create new files from conversation
  • Switch between different folders

Key Concepts

Reading Multiple Files

Claude can read entire folders and synthesize what's inside. Instead of opening files one by one, you can say:

"Summarize everything in the company-context folder"

Creating Files

Claude can create files directly from your conversation:

"Create a file called notes.md with a summary of what we discussed"

Folder Switching

You can work with any folder on your computer:

"Can you switch to my Documents folder?"

In Your Scenario

You'll explore the files you inherited — and trust us, it's a mess:

  • Company context — who they are, the problem you're solving
  • Inherited chaos — messy notes, scattered data, half-finished work
  • Empty folders — where you'll organize your findings

This is exactly what it feels like to step into a new role or inherit someone else's project. You'll make sense of it together with Claude.

Real-World Applications

  • Inheriting a project from someone who left
  • Client deliverables — making sense of a messy folder
  • Your own files — finally organizing that Downloads folder
